Thank you for sending us your comments and sharing your memories of this special place in the city.

Greetings,
Just read about your group in the Herald News a few moments ago.I have a particular interest in this cemetary myself as I more than just grew up near it.I have lived near it my entire life and have many memories of times spent in there from riding my bike in there as a small child to ‘hanging in the boneyard’ with my fellow crazy teen cohorts. We were not of the graffiti sprawing or stone toppling ilk and treated it with the respect it deserved as it always was ‘our park’ as it were.As an adult I have returned there many times to walk and clear the fog.The city has in fact done an amazing job of keeping the place clean and presentable and for that,I applaud them. It’s one of the reasons I still return there from time to time.In a world of constant change,it has always been the same, like an old friend to me.There have been changes. Not the least of which and most notable for me personally,is the inclusion of James R. Charette Sr.,my father. So you see,I am very grateful that you have started this group and I will be joining. Jim Charette

Hi my name is Suzanne. I was born in Newport RI, but with the exceptions of summers I have pretty much lived in Fl. My grandparents as well as other relatives are buried in this cemetery. I have been trying for many years with out much sucess I might add, to do a family tree. I know there are many sites out there that offer this, but they are too expensive. Does anyone know if I would be able to contact the caretaker for any information that may be on the burial cards? Any ideas would br greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

I am finally in the process of doing my family tree. My great grandfather’s name was Nicholas Kessell and I have always known he was a stonecutter in Fall River Mass in the mid to late 1800′s as he past on in 1904 of “stone consumption”. I came across a book “The Fall River Directory of 1882 and notice an ad in there for Kessell and Lawson, a stonecutting company. I can only guess that my great grandfather was in that partnership. My question is, if there is anyway you could find out if he was all involved in the cutting of the Borden tombstone in 1892? I have been intrigued all my life, but now am very curious.
Thank you,
Elaine Kessell
There is never any information about stonecutters.

Elaine,
T. Richard Kessell was in business with Alexander Lawson’s- a monument company just outside the gates of Oak Grove on Prospect Street. They made use of the excellent Fall River granite quarried just down the road a short distance from the cemetery. I would love to know more about your relative and of any specific stones he may have carved./ FOG

Hi, I also have been researching my family tree. I came across an Obit for Francis Elias Parry who died in June of 1920 and buried in Oak Grove. I would like to know the location of his plot and if there are more Parry’s buried in this cemetery.
Thank you,
Gail McKinnon

I am researching my family history and have learned that an Arthur Champlin, d. 1920 is supposed to be buried in Oak Grove Cemetery. His name is not located in Findagrave for Oak Grove, and I am wondering if there is some other way to locate his grave and if there are other family member buried in a family plot.
